MISSION

As a church we want to encounter Jesus as we invest in people’s spiritual journey.

VISION

By 2022, we want to see 80 people take their next step with Jesus. God gave us 82.

By 2023, we want to make 90 gospel connections with people who are searching. We saw 101.

By 2024, we want to see 80 adults trained to spiritually invest in the children of our church and community.

By 2040, we want to plant 4 church-planting churches.

VALUES

At South Burleson Baptist Church, our values help guide everything else we do.

Vulnerability Toward Jesus

The primary thing Jesus asks of us is a heart that is open to Him.

Scripture declares that “the sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise” (Ps 51:17), and that “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6).

Our hope is for 2020 to be the Year of Vulnerability, where our church discovers new ways to have an open heart before Jesus.

Sharing Ministry

Jesus put our church together to share the work of ministry and raise up leaders.

We see in Ephesians that Jesus gave churches “the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ” (4:11-12). His plan is for us to work together, each in our own gifting as we train and build one another up.

If everyone is off doing their own thing without bringing someone else along, we will shift from making disciples to keeping our own “ministry” to ourselves.

Personal Over Public

We keep the power of life-on-life ministry on the front burner, resisting the urge to emphasize public ministry over making disciples personally.

We can see this clearly in how Jesus conducted Himself. He worked to invest in twelve men when he could have won the crowds’ favor. He individually restores people like Zaccheus, the Woman at the Well, and Peter, when he could have just moved on to those more motivated to be his disciples.
